November 2024

Updated: Nov 15

Hello Everyone,

The 2024 Viper driving season stretched right into November with several members driving their's to our Nov. 2nd lunch in Burlington! Enjoy those last delightful fall drives, store them with care, read on to discover recent member fun, and the "sky-high" exciting events that we're planning for 2025 when you get them back on the road!

It's a Viper Halloween courtesy of VCO member Jon Miranda in Rochester, NY

Hagerty planned a last minute October Cars & Coffee with the unexpected great weather. A huge number of cars showed up including several of our Vipers!

If you've never been to a Hagerty C&C you really should check them out. They are held the last Sunday of each summer month starting up again on May 25, 2025!

We also enjoyed meals at Beertown Public House restaurants in Newmarket and Burlington. And who knew we'd be driving Vipers to a Burlington lunch in November... top L-R-Wayne & Jackie Tucker, Walter Baker, bottom R-Steve Colan & son Christopher.

We hope you enjoyed the spectacular fall colours from behind the wheel of your Viper. These memories were shared by, from left to right, top row-Chris Keirstead, Tomek Stefani, Paul Alves, 2nd row-Jon Miranda, Greg Gillmore, 3rd & 4th-Andrea Bowden, Jay Tanti (3), 5th-Justin Black, Simon Moroz, Dave Pelosini, Bottom-Bruce Hadfield...

Up-coming Event

Nov. 30th is our last planned event day of 2024...and the 50th that was planned this year!

If you'd like to plan a local winter get-together please contact your area director or Bruce.

New Director Announcement

We're very pleased to welcome Stephen Colan from Grand Island NY to our Board as Area Director for Western New York. Stephen's huge enthusiasm is already creating exciting events for his WNY members, for many other Viper owners throughout the area that will soon discover our club, and also for the enjoyment of our members in Ontario!

2025 Event Planning...WOW!

Your directors have pooled their area event ideas for '25, and sky-high they are, literally!

  • How about biplane rides for 2 with Canadian Barnstormers at the Guelph Airpark?

  • Or a Windsor Assembly Plant Tour to see the new Dodge Charger Daytona being built, designed by the team that created the Gen V Viper street and race cars?

  • Our annual Viper Show is June 14th...with a very exciting twist we're working on!

  • Over 70 excellent suggestions were proposed by our 13 directors and numerous other members for events across Southern Ontario and Western New York!

  • We'll be scheduling around 50 again for 2025, and save the others for 2026!

  • Events will be posted asap at https://www.viperclubofontario.com/events

If you couldn't make it out to many 2024 events, we hope you'll plan to join the fun in '25!

Winter Storage Tips

Store with a full tank of fuel to avoid condensation accumulating in the tank, and Garrett recommends avoiding the use of fuel stabilizer products.

There's no need to start the engine periodically over the winter. Doing so causes condensation that leads to corrosion and degrading of the engine oil.

Engine oil becomes contaminated with normal use and should be changed annually, or every 2 years at the most, to help prevent contaminants from causing internal engine damage, even if the mileage doesn't warrant it. Storing with fresh oil makes sense.

All vehicles experience slow power drain that can damage a battery when it's not charged by frequent use during winter storage. It's recommended to use an intelligent charger or battery maintainer. For complete information please see "Timely Tip - Winter care for your battery" https://www.viperclubofontario.com/post/the-vco-times-6.

Tires are best to sit on wood or something other than a concrete garage floor, and can be over-inflated 5 psi to help avoid "flat spotting" from sitting in one position all winter.

Wheel finishes are damaged over long periods by settled brake dust and road grime. Removing the wheels is optimal for the most thorough clean to help prevent damage. That's also the perfect time to have them checked for any needed wheel straightening or refinishing. Union Rim offers a service where they rotate your wheels with tires on a machine and you will observe any wobbling. https://www.unionrim.com/services

Tires on minimally driven Vipers tend to require replacement due to old age long before the tread wears out. If they're more than 7 years old they have lost enough of their grip and deteriorated to the point that driving safety will be compromised in situations where you suddenly need it most. Availability of our Viper tire sizes is sporadic as they are only produced infrequently. If yours are old, buy now or get them on order asap! Clean the car, but avoid washing and putting the car away wet. A nice drive will dry body, suspension and brake components. Remove boxes of tissue and anything that might attract nesting rodents, and if you use a car cover, keep it up off the floor to discourage them from climbing up it. Apply any body, trim and interior protectants you wish to use.

The success of various rodent repellant recommendations is uncertain as there are many who claim each of them doesn't work. If you have a proven one please let Bruce know.

It's wise to retain insurance coverage against fire and theft over the winter. Keep your keys safely hidden and away from the car to prevent theft and "proximity" battery drain.

These storage tips should help your Viper be ready to go and enjoy in the spring!
